La Viñona - our local bar

Since the arrival of Romi (pictured above) and his family our local bar has taken on a new lease of life. This institution called La Viñona is just down the hill from Olmares and has been the bar of choice for the villagers ever since we arrived in Basieda some 30 years ago. There's always a good mix of people ranging from bikers stopping off for lunch to hunters getting together after a day out searching for wild boar in the surrounding mountains.

It's a great spot for grabbing a bite to eat and a beer whilst watching the world go by. Romi and his family have also renovated a new dining room but if the weather's good we love to sit outside.

Food is simple but decent mountain fare, expect to see all the local hearty dishes of the region. Cocido (mountain stew) Fabada (bit similar to cassoulet but using chorizo) and plenty of meat! The homemade meatballs are good but the steak & chips + bottle of Rioja combo for 22 Euros is outrageous value.
